Good to the last drop

The Empress of our hoard, Tasche, has this thing about water from *my* water glass. We have to keep it filled with fresh water, and if the glass gets empty she stands there looking at us until we get the *point*. No, we are not her servants at all. Nope.

Charge of the God

For the ritual Jamie and I created for PantheaCon 2009 “A Walk in the Garden” which explored some of the core elements of Wicca, we used the Charge of the Goddess as written by Doreen Valiente as part of the words spoken by the Goddess and voiced by the five priestesses. Since we were working with polarity and balance we wanted a piece of equal weight to that powerful charge for the God to speak. While Doreeen wrote several Charge of God poems, none of them felt quite right for what we were doing and none of them specifically paralleled her original Charge of the Goddess in form and structure. So… we wrote our own.

Charge of the God
By Jamie Morgan and Catherine Pennington
Adapted from Doreen Valiente’s “Charge of the Star Goddess”

I who am the power of the velvet darkness, And the echoing space between the stars, And the depths of the endless sea, and the fire in the hearts of all. I come from the darkness, from out of that which is everything. From me all things proceed, and unto me all things must return; and before my face, beloved of our loins, let thine innermost human self be enfolded, in the rapture of the world.

Let my worship be within the body that dances; And therefore, let: Splendor and Potency, Command and Kindness, Respect and Modesty, Laughter and Solemnity shine through you.

And you who thinkest to know me – then walk with me in the light and the dark, in the shadows of your soul and the brilliance of your love. And together we may find the mysteries of the universe if you have the patience to see into the hearts of all, including yourself. For behold, I have been beside thee from the first sunrise and will walk with thee to the end of days.

About the new little fellow in our logo

You may have noticed that we have a new header for our webpage with a fancy critter bounding across the image. The critter is a three tailed kitsune and is our logo and mascot. She first made her appearance on our newly redone shop page when Artfire.com gave us these nifty new tools to play with called Fusion Shops.

I’ve been teaching myself to use Photoshop, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to experiment. It probably took rather longer than other folks with more experience, but I got better the more I worked on the banner. And it was a lot of fun in the end. Jamie liked it so much she suggested we use it for our web page as well so I learned to make multiple sized versions of the banner even!

The kitsune are a mythical Japanese trickster spirits who often appear in the form of a fox. They have a range of mystical powers, depending on age, experience and talent. One of their distinguishing features is multiple tales. It is said that the most powerful and rare kitsune have nine tails. Ours, being young, and still learning its trade, though with a few skills and tricks up its sleeve, has three.

Here are a couple of fun pages for more info on kitsune:

The usual starting place – wikipedia
Foxtrot’s Research on Kitsune Lore Written by Kit LaHaise
Kitsune.org

Our kistune friend was inspired in part by one of the cats of my hoard, Shadow who often looks like a kitsune in mortal form and routine seems to attempting to prove that she is talented enough to have three tails (but can never seem to hang on to more than about two).

When Jamie and I combined our businesses we borrowed the idea of the kitsune from her business name: The Silver Kitsune and blended that with the grass and tree background of my logo for Sacred Seeds. And voila! A new logo and banner was born!

Let us know what you think and don’t forget to come visit the shop – Jamie and I are still adding bits from our new treasure trove of goodies to share with you all!

Blessings,

Kate

Caturday Post - Kate’s Hoard

Winston is probably the easiest of all the cats in the Hoard to photograph because his coat reads well on film and he’s a great big goofball. He gets into the weirdest spots - between couch cushions, across two chairs (because one is just never enough) and upside down on a chair. He also LOVES any place you would rather he not get into, of course. In this case, it was a bag filled with a woven hat and raffia for a project my husband was working on. Figures.

Charge of the Steampunk Goddess

This is something Jamie and I wrote to get ourselves in the groove for Baycon 2009’s theme which was of course, Steampunk. Inspired as always by the original written by Doreen Valiente.  Enjoy!

Charge of the Steam Punk Goddess

By Jamie Morgan and Catherine Pennington

Hear ye the words of the Goddess of Due Diligence; she in the saw dust of whose boots are the hosts of a nation, and whose body encircles the workforce.

I who am the beauty of the green house and the white moon under the street lamp, and the mysteries of indoor plumbing, and the desire in the hearts of clockwork men, do call upon your soul to arise and come unto me. For I am the generator at the heart of the machine who gives life to the universe.

Let My industry be within the company that constructs, for behold, all acts of creation and electricity are My rituals.

Therefore let there be form and function, alchemy and chemistry, melting and hammering, tempering and polishing within the machine.

And you who think to seek for Me, know that your seeking and yearning will avail you not unless you know the Mystery. If that which you seek you find not within the divine plan you will never find it without.

For behold, I have been with you from the start of your shift to when the closing bell rings; and I am that which is attained at the end of a days work.”

And of course, no Steampunk Charge would be complete without a few Steampunk pretties to lust after. Here are a couple of the items Jamie and I created for the con which are currently available for sale in the shop.

Did you know that black cats have the lowest and slowest adoption rates?
